The Cyprus Tech Odyssey: XRPL Hackathon 2024, held last week, marked a significant event in the field of Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT). This gathering was characterised by a high level of collaboration, knowledge exchange, and innovative endeavours. The event successfully brought together students and professionals from across Europe, focusing on the application of DLT to address real-world challenges.

The UK Centre for Blockchain Technologies participated in the event, underscoring our commitment to advancing blockchain technology and fostering international collaborations. UK CBT's contributions ranged from providing expert insights to facilitating workshops, thereby enriching the event's educational and innovative objectives. Our active participation not only highlighted the Centre's expertise in blockchain technology but also its dedication to nurturing a global community of blockchain professionals and enthusiasts.

The primary aim of the hackathon was not only to recognise the winners but also to foster engagement among the University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI) partners. This involved a rich exchange of ideas and a shared commitment to innovation within the technology community.

Significant contributions were made by several distinguished participants and UBRI partners. Notable among them were Lauren Weymonth, Director of Partnerships at Ripple and head of UBRI Connect, and Klitos Christodoulou, Assistant Professor, along with Leonidas Katelaris, Post-Doc, and their team from the Distributed Ledgers Research Centre at the University of Nicosia's Institute For the Future.

Other key attendees included David Bchiri, President of XRPL Commons Paris, Dan Wallace, Developer Advocate at Ripple, Radu State, Professor of Computer Science at the University of Luxembourg, and Luc Bocahut, Product Director at XRPL Commons Paris.

The event was instrumental in highlighting the practical applications of DLT and its potential impact on various sectors. The participation of students and professionals from diverse backgrounds underscored the interdisciplinary nature of this technological field.
